When Savoy Cabbage started 12 years ago and were selecting their first wine list they sought out female wine makers. Catherine Marshall was then at the forefront of the Garagiste Movement in South Africa and has long featured on their carefully chosen and competitively priced list.
Whilst still a Garagiste, Catherine was also Cellar master at well-known Ridgeback Winery. It was here that Catherine garnered a maiden vintage 5 star rating for the Ridgeback Shiraz 2001, which helped the winery to premium status. She has since concentrated on growing her small company and has moved operations to the cool Elgin Valley where her entire Pinot production is grown. She has won a second 5 star Platter rating for her Pinot Noir in 2008 and the wine was voted the second best red wine in the country out of 6000 entries.
A first in South Africa, Catherine Marshall is the only female winemaker to produce a range of wines under her own name. This decision came about when she felt that her name would serve as a guarantee for quality to consumers. This is your opportunity to discover her range of wines.
Savoy Cabbage is in the party mood, so come and join them as they enter their teens! Visit www.savoycabbage.co.za for more information.
