The luxury Spier Hotel is situated on the award-winning Spier wine farm on the banks of the Eerste River, near the historic town of Stellenbosch and just 20 minutes drive from Cape Town International Airport. The hotel offers sublime winelands getaways, and a variety of activities on the estate enable guests to explore contemporary South Africa through food, wine and art in beautiful surroundings.  It was one of the first luxury hotels in South Africa to be Fair Trade in Tourism certified.

It is the combination of old-world elegance and contemporary culture that makes Spier an interesting place to visit.  The wine farm has an impressive collection of Cape Dutch gables, a recorded history dating back to 1692, and its winery is one of the most awarded in South Africa.

The hotel’s rooms are situated in village-style buildings grouped around six private courtyards – each with its own swimming pool – in a design reminiscent of the Bo-Kaap or Mediterranean villages where pedestrians have right of way.  Care was taken to complement the existing heritage buildings.

Rolling lawns, gardens and walkways connect the rooms with the reception area, lounge, bar, terrace and restaurant.  The décor includes a collection of striking contemporary art, and features a sophisticated, vibrant style with strong colours, patterns and textures that echo nature’s designs.

The new restaurant, Eight, is an exciting opportunity for guests to pair great food and wine.  It also best reflects Spier’s ethos – like its name, Eight signifies balance, abundance, harmony and cycles, and has a focus on local, fresh, natural and organic food and wine.
