When the poofy eighties prom dress devoured disco and its shiny mirror balls, thousands were forced to send booty shakes and soul trains to the dusty stacks in their brain, to seemingly never be heard of again. Release pent-up energy from the seventies with today’s Groupon: one ticket to the Nite Fever show for R60 at The Barnyard Theatre Willowbridge.
Celebrating a decade when platform shoes were as high as the Eiffel tower, pants literally (almost) could ding-dong melodious chimes and people swooned at the colour orange, the Nite Fever show is a disco-dancing seventies celebration. Mixing together five parts stellar band and five parts vocal geniuses, the result is a dynamic ten-piece cast that gets you shaking that groove thang like nobody’s watching.
Featuring the body-rocking chants of Rod Stewart, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson Five, amongst others, the show will have middle-aged somethings reminiscing about the wonders of their youth when Farrah Fawcett shags were the object of that cute Brady son’s affections. Sing along to songs like You’re so Vain or Love is in the Air while you look at your partner through adoring wire-framed round glasses and he waves a bum-swinging boogie in your direction. The Nite Fever show is a recipe for John Travolta-style hands in the air, hips gyrating in delicious fashions and bootilicious body-shaking celebrations like you have never witnessed before.
Disco-dancing Fact: The club, “Gotham City” was the first disco club in Zanzibar. The club was frequented by tourists who were fascinated by the realistic cabbage field floors that the club had.
