Guest House at a Glance
The Antbear Guesthouse, originally built in the 1940s and recently restored by sculptor Bruce Attwood, gets its name from the previous resident, who lived beneath the floor boards before restoration. Perched on a natural platform overlooking the bushman’s river, the house has panoramic views of the Drakensberg Mountains. Enjoy leisurely breakfasts with freshly baked bread and scones, and decadent candlelight dinners and picnic baskets on request. Charming thatched, whitewashed cottages built into the hillside include fireplaces and spa baths. Each room is differently decorated with uniquely eccentric and artistic wooden furniture.

What to do in Hlatikulu Valley Area
Situated just a few kilometres from the Giant's Castle Nature Reserve and dwarfed by the backdrop of the Drakensberg Mountains is the Hlatikulu Valley. For many centuries the nearby berg was home to the San or Bushmen, and evidence of their occupation is preserved in the hundreds of stick-like animals painted on the walls of caves in the Reserve. More than 40% of all known rock art in South Africa can be found in this area. Game in the reserve includes some eleven species of antelope as well as jackal, baboon, serval and caracal. There is plenty to do in the area. Walks in the Drakensberg mountains, visits to bushman paintings, horse trails through a private game reserve, canoe trips, golfing, trout fishing, white water rafting, canopy tours, battlefield tours and the Midlands Meander.
