Danielle Postma is arguably one of Jozi’s finest pastry chefs and has Parktown Quarter locals drooling over her window display of mini lemon-meringue tarts, tiny cheese-cakes, magic bars, decadent brownies and much more. So much so, there is a sign etched on their window that reads: ‘Don’t drool on our glass please.’ All technically perfect and always fresh, the savoury side of the business – a buffet style lunch - is every inch as perfectly composed as the cakes, with wonderful salads, lamb and sultana pies and vegetable dishes. Breakfast is a big favourite too, from perfect eggs to the best muesli and yoghurt.
‘The Moemas philosophy is very much “slow food”,’ says Danielle. ‘We want patrons to take as much time enjoying our meals as we’ve put into creating them. Moemas is about joy, beauty, quality, and all the things that are important including good people, fresh food, cakes and pastries made daily on the premises using seasonal produce. They specialise in quality ingredients with no artificial flavourings or preservatives and their eggs are free-range, the butter unsalted and their chocolate pure belgian.
The original 'Moema' is a woman called Joy Anderson, owner Danielle's grandmother. She is called `Moema’ by all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, because her eldest granddaughter couldn't pronounce Ouma, and called her Moema instead.
