A tiny patch of Mexican soil set just off Campbell Road, Cantina Tequila brings you all things authentically Mexican. From the food and the feisty music to the waiter’s jokes, if it’s Mexican your heart is craving, look no further. Once inside, it’s almost hard to believe you’re still in South Africa much less Fourways.
Mexican passion is almost tangible around every corner of this charismatic restaurant. The attention to detail is extraordinary, from the exquisite imported fabrics and crockery right through to the tin roof and bright yellow wall that would only be legal in Mexico. The menu boasts exotic, rich dishes straight out of a Mexican oven. Tuck into nachos, quesadillas, chimichangas, fajita’s and enchiladas that’ll have even the most Afrikaans of Afrikaners gooi some Spanish.
The atmosphere is as rich and infused with Mexican flavour as the menu. After a couple of tequilas and margheritas everyone is everyone’s amigo and new accents are adopted. The relaxed and authentically Mexican vibe means you can come as you are or dress up, dress down or finally whip out the old sombrero. After a night of fiesta and espíritu you’ll find it hard to say adios!
Mexican bubble fact: In 1953 a law was passed against blowing bubbles through the straw in your soft drink in Mexico. At the time they still used molasses and glycerine in soft drinks. The combination made the bubbles’ skin thick, hence the bubbles grew and grew and refused to pop.
