Before Fairy-Godmothers, magic was limited to the local corner magician, whose greatest act would usually be pulling a penny from behind a woman’s ear. Sit back and enjoy the enchantment of greater magic with today’s Groupon: a ticket to see Cinderella at The Joburg Theatre for R130.

One of the most popular fairy tales of all time, Cinderella made every little girl want a ballgown and a pair of glass slippers; and when brought to pantomime life in the Joburg Theatre, the result is nothing short of magical. In a high quality production overflowing with comedy, breath-taking costumes, fantastical sets and a stellar cast, Janice Honeyman  does the age old story justice in a spectacular show.

Famous for roles on Binnelanders and Idols respectively, the show stars young reality television stars Carmen Pretorius and Bongi Mthombeni in the lead roles as Cinderella and Prince charming. Ugly sisters include the likes of Tobie Cronjé and Isidingo’s Robert Whitehead who play the roles to absolute comedic perfection with charm and an incredible skill to be both hateable yet entertaining. Of course, what’s the story without Cinderella’s fantasy transformation from rags to riches with the help of her fairy-godmother played by Anna-Mart van der Merwe. Perfect in the role, the fairy-godmother, along with the rest of the sensational cast, adds a distinct charm to the production that keeps audiences entertained.

In a theatre rich in A-grade theatre performances, Groupon-grippers will no doubt be left craving more once the curtain finally drops.

Actor Action: One of the exercises practiced by German actors is the act of screaming really loudly for 30 minutes in a dark cupboard before they go on stage. This has led many reviewers to write rather strange reviews on the review site, www.tammysbowlofchips.co.de.
