South Africa’s most famous
vocal export, dramatic tenor Johan Botha is one of the world’s most
sought-after singers, appearing regularly at the world’s great opera houses,
including La scala, Covent Garden, the Berlin Staatsoper, the Metropolitan
Opera, the Liceu and the Vienna Staatsoper. With the greatest conductors of our
day, including Abbado, Levine, Bychkov and Pappano, he has thrilled audiences
around the globe with his masterly performances of the heavier Italian
repertory, as well as the great Wagner and Strauss tenor roles.
For a one-night-only gala performance, Johan Botha returns to Gauteng, where he studied and made his stage debut (as Max in Weber’s Der Freischütz in Roodepoort in 1989). Conducted by Sebastian Lang-Lessing and including glorious Romantic repertoire by Verdi, Puccini and Wagner, this concert is a rare opportunity to hear one of the world’s foremost singers live on stage in Johannesburg.
