The Saturday School Programme is a professionally run educational course that engages with two hundred Grade 12 learners from developing communities within the Cape Metropole. The learners have the chance to acquire focused remedial teaching in Pure Mathematics, Physical Science, English, Life Science and Accounting as well as life skills, career guidance workshops and visits from motivational speakers. Developed to offer learners access to UCT resources and facilities not currently available at their schools, the programme invites successful applicants from their communities and transports them on Saturdays for extra lessons.

Bursaries are not guaranteed to these learners, however if learners on the programme achieve academically, then these opportunities can be made available to them. The Career Development Unit at UCT supports the programme by offering workshops aimed at helping the learners make career and course decisions for their future studies. Another exciting component of the programme is that participating learners are given the opportunity to conduct their Matric Chemistry and Life Science practicals in UCT’s laboratories.
