Donate R50 to the Children's Hospital Trust for the Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital

Mother's Day is a time to honour mothers as well as a time for moms to celebrate the joys of motherhood. While many moms will be showered with flowers, treats and breakfasts in bed on Sunday 13th May, there are some devoted mothers who will spend this Mother’s Day at their sick child’s bedside at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital.

The Children’s Hospital Trust and Groupon Grassroots are joining together to honour the moms of sick children at the Hospital by appealing for donations of R50 or more to mark this very special day. One hundred percent of all donations will help upgrade the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital’s 56-year-old General Medical Ward, which cares for hundreds of sick children with diseases like HIV and TB. The Children’s Hospital Trust needs R100 000 to reach their target to start construction in July 2012.

 

 

Most of the little patients treated in the General Medical Wards are under a year old and many of their moms spend sleepless nights at the Hospital at their child’s bedside, worrying about their sick children and the rest of their family at home. As the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital is the only specialist children’s Hospital in southern Africa, desperately ill children are referred from all over the country so for many their homes and families are far away.
 

 

“Mother’s Day is not only a special day to thank mothers for their devotion to their children, but it is also a day for us mothers to be thankful for having, or mothering children, especially when they are healthy,” says Louise Driver, CEO of the Children’s Hospital Trust, fundraiser for the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital and Paediatric Healthcare in the Western Cape.

“We are appealing to all mothers, and those who wish to honour their mothers, to donate in appreciation of this blessing and also in remembrance of other mothers who are currently spending long periods at their sick children’s bedsides in the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital.”
 

 

With your gift of R50, you will help the Children’s Hospital Trust raise the final R100 000 needed for the R13million upgrade to the General Medical Ward. These donations will collectively create a legacy to benefit future generations of very sick children receiving lifesaving medical treatment in the General Medical Ward.
