Offering a new way to discover local causes, rally together and lend a helping hand, Groupon Grassroots uses the power of collective action to support a number of fantastic charities and outreach initiatives. As South Africa celebrates Youth Month this June, Groupon Grassroots encourages you to make a contribution, however big or small, towards the Heart Charitable Trust and OGLE Media as they work to provide students all over South Africa with free educational content.

Developed by Platypus Digital, OGLE Digital Download Kiosks allow teachers and learners to browse free education content via a simple touchscreen interface, collect content and download it directly to the media device of their choice, including mobile phones, tablets and USB flash drives – all without the need for a computer, internet connection or incurring data costs. Providing both teachers and learners with free, quality, curriculum-based education and edutainment, Heart Charitable Trust and OGLE Media aim to raise enough money to place at least one OGLE Kiosk in an underprivileged school in each Groupon City in South Africa.

The reality is that, after 18 years of democracy, the education system in South Africa is in crisis. Educational materials are scarce and adequate funding even more so. Millions of our young citizens live in impoverished households and they see a good education as their way to a better life. Yet they’re struggling to break the cycle of poverty brought about by a lack of education.

Your support will contribute to placing an OGLE Kiosk in a disadvantaged school or community centre and allow kids and teachers to access the education content they so desperately need.
