Like listening to Carols by Candlelight, Christmas lunch and dinner are big South African traditions and while many families are going to be eating lunch’s leftovers for weeks, there are some that aren’t that lucky. For R20, you can help to give 12 people the joy of a good meal this Christmas.

In order to fulfil their dream of a South Africa without hunger and malnutrition, FoodBank South Africa works to eliminate hunger and create jobs in rural areas, by co-operation between those fighting hunger and use the thousands of tons of food that would otherwise go to waste to feed orphans, HIV-infected persons and many other less fortunate groups of South Africans. With their Food Rescue and Food Procurement programs, FoodBank South Africa supplies food and other essential non-food items to almost 1059 community-based NGOs, supporting over 203 000 beneficiaries in both Child and Youth and Adult Development.

By partnering with Groupon, FoodBank South Africa is attempting to break the food security poverty cycle and ensure their beneficiaries – including orphanages, crèches, old age homes, shelters, soup kitchens and HIV/AIDS clinics – don’t go without this Christmas. By donating just R20, you can make a big difference with just a small contribution and provide meals and other essential items to those less fortunate during the holiday season.
