To many, South Africa is the land of spectacular sights; the place where the sea meets the mountain and where everything else fits snugly in between. However, for a few not-so-lucky miniature beings, these majestic sights are only dreams that they’ll never experience. With today’s Groupon, you can make a difference in 50 under-privileged little people’s lives by donating R20 to Sisanda FunDaytion to make a Sisanda Fun Day possible.

 

It is a reality that many children in South Africa are forced to grow up too soon, facing difficult challenges such as illness, extreme poverty and escalating crime and the Sisanda team have had the chance to make a difference in the lives of more than 1000 children, encouraging kids to just be kids for at least one day. Sisanda FunDaytion is an established outreach volunteer organisation that arranges a variety of “fun days” for under-privileged and disadvantaged children in areas of natural beauty and in places that are difficult to travel to. Since March 2009, the organisation has held at least one Fun Day per month and has made many children's lives a little bit brighter. Hailing from HIV and convalescent clinic backgrounds to community centres and orphanages, the organisation strives to create days that these little kids can remember forever.

Learning new skills, experiencing new things and discovering the beauty of just being a kid, the Fun Days are effective for both educational and motivational purposes. The team create opportunities for vulnerable children and hope to inspire them to realise their potential with inspiration through unforgettable experiences. Above all, Sisanda FunDaytion’s main purpose is to create a day where children can let go of grown-up worries and revel in just being children.

Planetary Wonder Fun Day

Forty children from the Emasithandane Children’s Home in Nyanga were whisked off to interplanetary realms and had fun creating their own solar system mobiles in an art workshop, followed by a delicious lunch at Spur. The group then strolled through Cape Town’s Company Gardens to arrive at the Iziko Planetarium where the rest of the day was spent ogling astronomical wonders.

A Whale of a Time at the Waterfront

Kids were entranced on an outing to the V&A Waterfront. The trip included a Spur lunch and a visit to the Two Oceans Aquarium where some for the first time saw sharks, penguins and clownfish they recognised from Finding Nemo.

Hout Bay Happiness

A gorgeous day in Hout Bay saw the Sisanda team taking a group of kids to the Hout Bay Harbour for fish and chips and a trip to Seal Island. Afterwards, the group marvelled at the majesty of the birds at World of Birds.
