The story follows John Smith, a London taxi driver who lives with his wife, Mary, in Highgate. The only problem is that his other wife, Barbara, is living only four minutes away in Finchley. Unaware of each other’s existence due to John’s impressive excuses, events take a funny turn when a simple mistake causes a chain recreation that causes John to have to scramble desperately to cover things up. To put the cream on the coffee, his curious neighbours, a determined journalist and two suspicious police decide to interfere.
