The Train
With a warm ambience, friendly atmosphere and an air of luxury, and the Shongololo Express train offers guests a culturally rich memorable travel experience, traveling comfortably and securely during the night and arriving at a new and exciting destination each dawn. As in any hotel, bedding and towels are provided and the Gold or Commodore cabins are serviced daily. Cabins have ample storage space and closets are equipped with both hangers and shelving. The professional multi-lingual guides on board will assist and inform you of the beauty and wonders of your chosen route. With Shongololo, their fleet of air-conditioned touring vehicles is also transported together with the train for exploring the various stops.
The Surroundings
Explore some of the most beautiful and historically rich countries on an epic journey from Southern to East Africa. Starting off in the stunning mist of Victoria Falls, guests have the opportunity to take a few snaps of the natural wonder before a dash to Botswana’s Chobe National Park, boasting a spectacular array of wildlife which includes both elephants and hippos. Hitting the rails to Zambia, travellers are introduced to historic Lusaka before spending the night at Chaminuka Lodge, lending guests the opportunity to take part in the many activities on offer. A trip to Kundalila Falls offers breath-taking scenery with its 70-metre drop, breaking into thin veils of spray at the base of the river. Crossing the border to Tanzania, train folk will visit Selous Game Reserve, the largest reserve in Africa, before taking to the rails once-more on the way to the spectacularly diverse Dar es Salaam and Bagamoyo.
Pre-day, Victoria Falls or Dar es Salaam
You will be met upon arrival at Victoria Falls Airport OR Julius Nyerere International Airport at the information counter and transferred to the train. Having a pre-day allows guests to acclimatise and unpack prior to the first day of touring. A pre-night on board will include dinner, bed and breakfast. Please note that the pre-night will cost R 450 per person.
