Guesthouse at a Glance

AJ's Guesthouse consists of four private self-catering units just three minutes’ walk from the beachfront, just off Marine Drive in Margate. Wake up to the sounds of the Indian Ocean, pack your towels and take a stroll down to the popular blue flag Margate beachfront, which is visible from the guesthouse. While you relax in the sun the housekeepers will take care of the basic cleaning services in each unit. Late afternoons can be spent lazing on the sundeck around the pool and braai areas.

Room details

The beach house consists of two bedrooms, a bathroom, open-plan kitchen and lounge area. There is a private entrance off the street with a lock-up garage, small garden and braai area. The main bedroom consists of a queen-size bed, whilst the second room has a double bed. The lounge has two sleeper couches for children. The kitchen is fully equipped with all modern appliances including a stove, microwave, fridge/freezer and washing machine. The kitchen opens onto a private courtyard with a washing line.

What to do in Margate

Margate is a seaside resort town on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast. This area provides a natural haven for a multitude of tropical fish species and an abundance of coral reefs which allow for excellent scuba diving and snorkelling. The renowned Protea Banks dive site with its vast shoals and sharks bring great delight to divers. The fishing in Margate is good, and rocks off the shore abound with mussels. Boating and skiing are popular water sports in Margate. Canoes and paddleboats are available for hire at the lagoon. Surfing at Margate and the nearby St. Michaels Beach is also popular. Nature reserves in the vicinity of Margate include the Oribi Gorge Nature Reserve, the Skyline Reserve and Uvongo River Reserve, offering tranquil scenery and a wide variety of birdlife, with nearly 400 species sighted in the region. Other attractions in and around Margate include the Margate Bird Park with its walk-through aviary, and the Riverbend Croc Farm, home to more than 200 Nile Crocodiles.
