What to do in the Dinokeng Reserve

Meaning ‘a place of rivers’, the conservancy of Dinokeng was established by the Gauteng Provincial Government as a premier tourist destination close to urban Gauteng. At over 200 000 hectares, Dinokeng lies in the catchment area of the Olifants and Limpopo Rivers and encompasses a number of towns, the Roodeplaat and Rust de Winter dam areas and over 275 tourist attractions. Dinokeng is culturally and historically rich with battle sites, forts, memorials and cemeteries littering the landscape. There is something for everyone to enjoy from Big 5 game parks, bird watching, nature reserves, adventure activities, a diamond mine, archaeological sites and galleries. Dinokeng is also home to theatres, a winery and an open-air museum, as well as diamond outlets. The area’s three major tourist hubs are the historic town of Cullinan, where the world’s largest diamond was discovered in 1905, the Roodeplaat Dam and the Dinokeng Big Five Game Reserve.
